OUR STORY

The idea for doh’hut came from a road trip down the west coast of the USA where I was inspired by all the food trucks and street food.  I just had to think of an idea which was ‘British’ and something a little different so I could stand out from the crowd.

Donuts it was! After thinking back to my childhood and days of a student buying packs from Morrisons every other day, with classics like raspberry jam, I thought what’s more British than a Raspberry Jam Donut?

At the time there was no-one in my city of Leeds offering donuts, other than the obvious Krispy Kreme, and I knew I could make a better donut.

Skip forward a year, I had a recipe, a brand and started to book in small events to try my luck selling my product.

Things quickly progressed & I moved with it. To keep up with the demand I invested in a food truck where I could make much more donuts made fresh at the events, rather than from my flat and my parent’s house.

Skip forward another year and we are competing in the British St. Food awards, as surprised as we were, we won the Northern Heat in Leeds & then we were invited to compete in the national finals in London. We ended up winning the whole event being crowned 2018 Champions by the culinary legends Richard Corrigan & Gizzi Erskine. This led to us traveling the following weekend to Berlin for the European St food award finals, where we ended up winning best dessert.

After the summer of accomplishments, I knew we needed to progress and open a permanent home for doh’hut. It took over a year finding the right location, planning and building, but we eventually opened doh’hut Trevelyan Sq in January 2020.

Hopefully the first of many!
